About
Beth Ann Powers is an award-winning playwright, comedian, theater artist, and educator. Accolades include: winner of the Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest, Mary Marlin Fisher Award, and Alphred P. Sloan Compition. Her plays have been produced both in New York City and regionally from Minnesota to Washington, DC. As a comedian she has toured her work to festivals throughout the US and Canda. She is a founding member of Chaps, DC’s first all women sketch team, as well as a long time member of Rails Comedy. She has also performed as a solo artist as part of the annual Solocom festival at the People’s Improv Theater in NYC. Beth Ann holds an MFA in dramatic writing from Carnegie Mellon University, and a BA in theater arts, performance creation from the University of Minnesota. While in undergrad she also helped launch the former theater company, Slap Happy Studios, through which she directed and produced many original, collaboratively generated theater productions from 2015 to 2020.
